The 2010 Career Discovery Program in Architecture is a two-week program that offers high school students, who are considering careers in architecture, the opportunity to explore principles of design and the practice of architecture with faculty members and professional architects.  Professor Charles Rudolph has developed a broad and engaging curriculum that reflects his passion for and knowledge of architecture and his love of teaching.

The program of study includes drawing exercises, model-building projects, and field trips that provide the opportunity to see design and construction professionals in action.
Career Discover also offers one-on-one guidance to help participants make decisions about applying to an architecture program.  The drawings and documents produced during the Career Discovery classes also can be included in the participants' college admission portfolios

This program is offered in partnership with the College of Architecture. The College of Architecture provides some financial assistance for qualified participants. The program fees include more than $100 of supplies for the participants to keep.

The Chemistry of Biofuels
Date: June 7-11
Program Fee: $285
Grade: Rising 11-12
Time: 9:00 - 3:00
Application Deadline: March 26

Have you ever wondered how a car can run off of old french fry grease?  Advances in bio-technology have made it possible for corn and  other biomass materials to be turned into a source of alternate energy.  Increasing the use of biofuels, particularly for transportation, is one strategy for moving towards a more carbon-neutral energy system.  This advanced topic institute, presented by the Georgia Tech School of Chemistry, explores the chemistry and environmental impact of different biofuels, from biodiesel, to ethanol, to butanol.  The program is open to high school students who have successfully completed high school biology.

HOT Days @ GT is a summer program run solely by the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at Georgia Tech. While CEISMC helps to publicize this program, CEISMC does not process any of the applications.  The application for this program is completely separate from the application for CEISMC's other programs featured on this site. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Kristen Anderson at 404-894-9827 or kristen.anderson@ece.gatech.edu.

Hands-On-Tech – HOT Days @ GT
is a one-week long summer enrichment program designed to introduce students to Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) concepts.  Program attendees will be exposed to a wide variety of hands-on activities, including building a computer, working with robots, using music synthesis technology, building simple digital logic circuits, constructing a speaker from common household parts, and tours of various research labs.  The activities will be supervised by Georgia Tech ECE faculty, staff, graduate, and undergraduate students.  All rising 10th and 11th grade high school students with an interest in hands-on activities are encouraged to apply.  We are particularly interested in gender and ethnic diversity, so we especially encourage girls and minorities to submit applications.

Nanotechnology is an exciting new technology where the disciplines of science and engineering interconnect. Through nanoscale science and engineering, scientists are able to manipulate individual atoms and molecules to make new devices and materials. The ability to create structures whose size is measured in the billionths of meters promises to be the basis for a broad range of new products and processes. During this five-day course, students will explore what is unique about nanotechnology, complete hands-on activities on nano to learn about current application, tour research laboratories, and explore societal issues of new technologies. The course is designed to introduce students to nanotechnology research and development issues. In the process, students will explore chemistry, physics, and physical science as well as learn about the tools of nanotechnology.  This program is offered in partnership with GT's Microelectronics Research Center and the National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network.
