What if I
live outside of metro Atlanta or Georgia?
A number of students from outside metro Atlanta and from other
states attend the summer programs each year. However, our programs are
non-residential, and we are not able to provide housing or board for any
attendees. Typically, these participants stay with family or friends that
live in the area or at a hotel with family member. If you need
suggestions for a hotel, click on the Contact Us link to the left. All
participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from the
daily program.

When is the application
deadline?
Applications must be POSTMARKED by March 26th in order to be considered for
acceptance to the programs. Any applications postmarked after the 26th
will be reviewed after all other applications. If program spaces
remain available after March 26th, CEISMC will continue to accept
applications for these programs. Please visit the website for the most
up to date information on program availability. Please make sure to check the
Calendar page for
all important dates and deadlines.

Can I
submit the application and teacher recommendation separately?

We will not review incomplete applications. Each application submitted
to the CEISMC office should include the following pieces:

What
information is used to make admissions decisions?
CEISMC reviews a student's grades, the teacher recommendation and the date
the application was submitted. We suggest submitting applications as
soon as possible.
Top
What
is the wait list?
CEISMC receives more
applications from qualified
applicants than we have program
spaces available. As such, CEISMC
creates a wait list of qualified
applicants that are not initially
invited to attend the program.
Students are placed on the wait list
according to the postmark of the
application, and the list will be
available online. Students can
check their position on the wait
list at any time after April 2nd. If
any openings become available,
students will contacted in order of
names on the wait list.
Top
When will I know if I’ve been
accepted?
You will be notified of your admission status on Friday, April 2nd, via
email. Please make sure that the email address you provide on your
application is checked often. Check the Calendar page for all important dates
and deadlines.
Top
If my student is accepted, can you provide me with a list of other
participants and their information?
CEISMC is not permitted to share personal information with any group or
individual.
Top
Why do I have to pay a security
deposit?
To ensure that applicants are committed to attending a 2010 summer
program CEISMC requires a $100
non-refundable security deposit for
every program you will attend. This
security deposit will be applied to
your program fees, and it secures
your place in the program.
Top
When is my security deposit due?
All $100 security deposits must be paid or postmarked by April 16th.
If your student is wait listed and
later accepted into a program, the
security deposit is due 48 hours
after you receive notification of
acceptance. Please make sure
to check the Calendar page for all important
dates and deadlines.
Top
What if I don’t pay my deposit on
time?
If your deposit is not paid on
time, your acceptance to the program
is forfeited. This includes wait
listed acceptances.
Top
After I pay the deposit, when do I
have to pay the balance for a
program?
If you are attending
a June program, your balance is due
May 4. If you are attending a July
program, the balance is due June 1.
You can, of course, pay your balance
before these deadlines
occur. Remember, your $100 security
deposit will be applied to your
balance.
Example: $285 program fee,
$100 non-refundable deposit due
April 16, $185 program fee balance
due May 4 or June 1.
Please
make sure to check the Calendar page for all
important dates and deadlines.
Top
What if I have
attended in the past?
We do not keep any information on file from year to year, so students who
have attended a program in the past need to fill out ALL registration
materials. If you received financial assistance in the past, you must
apply for it again. Admission to a program in the past does not
guarantee acceptance to the 2010 programs.
Top
When do programs take place?
Programs take place Monday
through Friday, from 9 am until 3
pm.
Top
Who are the program instructors?
Programs are taught by a mixture of
Georgia Tech faculty, Tech students,
and area science and math teachers.
Top
Are programs residential?
None of the summer enrichment
programs are residential, and
students must have transportation
back and forth from Tech's campus
daily. Out of state students
typically stay in hotels nearby.
CEISMC does not make reservations
and is not responsible for students
outside of program hours.
Top
Can students drive to campus?
Students can drive to campus with
written notification signed by a
parent/guardian. This
notification must be given to the
CEISMC assistant the first morning
of the program. Parking on
campus is extremely limited and is
not included in program fees.
Parking is charged by the hour, and
can cost as much as $10 per day.
Top
Can students ride MARTA?
While it is not encouraged, students
can ride MARTA to get to Tech's campus. Students riding MARTA can get
on the Georgia Tech trolley at the Midtown station. The trolley runs
onto campus, and
students can also ride it in afternoon to
return to the MARTA station. CEISMC is not responsible for
students before they have checked in
or after they have checked out with
the CEISMC assistant.
Top
Could my program be cancelled?
While unlikely, CEISMC reserves
the right to cancel a program at any
time for any reason. If this should
happen, a full refund would be
issued. CEISMC also reserves the
right to remove students during the
program week for a number of reasons
we will disclose in your acceptance
email.
Top
How will I receive updates about
programs?
We send updates, application
status, payment deadlines, and
important program information via
email. EMAIL IS OUR PRIMARY MEANS
OF COMMUNICATION. It is of the
utmost importance that the parent
email address you provide us on your
application is spelled correctly and
checked often.
Top
Are lunches provided during summer
programs?
Your program fees include
payment for lunch each day. Students
will be given an $8 per day meal
card to use at the Georgia Tech
Student Center. The CEISMC staff
will escort students to the Student
Center and monitor them during
lunch. Dining options include a
salad bar, deli, Chick-fil-a, Burger
King, Pizza Hut, and various others.
Any charges exceeding $8 are the
responsibility of the student at the
time of purchase.
