Participation
in the Special Awards Organization (SAO) program of the Intel ISEF
2008 in
The SAO program
is jointly administered by the Georgia Host Committee of the Intel
ISEF 2008 and Science Service, the national non-profit organization
who has served as the administrator of the ISEF since its inception
in 1950.
BENEFITS TO SPONSOR
ORGANIZATIONS
All participating organizations in the
Special Awards program receive:

Broad exposure to ISEF attendees – your potential future students, interns, society members, and employees.

A unique opportunity to engage employees or members in the Intel ISEF judging process.

Complimentary Intel ISEF registration for Special Awards judges, including meals during the two-day judging process, entry to the judges’ “Mixer”, the Excellence in Science & Technology Panel, and all awards ceremonies.

Complimentary subscription to Science News magazine (award-winning publication of Science Service) for all participating judges.

Exposure and acknowledgement during the Special Awards Ceremony of the Intel ISEF.

Exposure and acknowledgement on the Science Service web site and the Georgia Host Committee web site.

Listing in the official Intel ISEF Program.

Printed copy of the official “Abstracts”, the annual listing of projects by Intel ISEF student Finalists.

Listing in the annual mailing to Intel ISEF-affiliated Fairs (over 550 worldwide), attracting participating students to your status as a Special Awards organization.
In addition to
the benefits provided to Special Awards organizations, Science
Service and the Georgia Host Committee will also:

Coordinate all special awards activities at the international and regional levels in order to maintain proper balance, recognition and relationships with the total Intel ISEF program.

Publicize the participation and awards of the sponsoring organization to affiliated fairs, members of the press, other sponsors and fair officials.
-
Provide judging guides and program information to your designated special awards judges for the Intel ISEF whose addresses are entered into online pre-registration prior to the deadline.

Provide facilities and necessary resources for judges' discussion areas, refreshments, etc.
-
Arrange Special Awards Ceremony to be held at the Intel ISEF, and plan a program for presentation of all special awards.
SPONSORSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Special Awards are presented annually to student
finalists by the SAO under judging criteria that is determined by
the participating SAO as follows:

Award winners are selected by Special Awards judges appointed by
the organization sponsoring the awards.

Selection of award winners must be based on the scientific merit
of the project and the criteria designated by the Special Awards
organization.

Special Awards organizations must assemble their own panel of
judges who will be present on the days of judging (Tuesday and
Wednesday of Intel ISEF week) to select winners.

Special Awards judges must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent in
degree or have a minimum of six years of teaching or research
experience at a university or in industry; should be actively
engaged in the field being judged; and should be interested in
the career and educational development of young people.
Judges may be local (from the area where the Intel ISEF
is being held) or may be recruited from elsewhere.
Any travel expenses incurred, including airfare,
accommodations and meals are the responsibility of the
sponsoring Special Awards organization.

Science Service suggests a minimum of three judges to select
your winners.

Judges must submit winners to Judging Control no later than
-
After the Special Awards agreement is signed, any proposed
changes in awards must be submitted in writing by April 1, 2008,
and approved by Science Service and the Georgia Host Committee.

Names and addresses of judges and the award presenter must be
provided via an online pre-registration link to Science Service
prior to April 15 each year.
-
All cash awards must be provided to the winners by June 15
immediately following the Intel ISEF.
Any trip or internship
details should also be communicated to the student prior to June
15.

Honorable mentions should not exceed the number of placement
awards that your organization is providing, and beginning in
2008 honorable mentions will not be announced on stage during
the award ceremony.
DESCRIPTION OF AWARD
Special Awards
An affiliation fee and award package minimum is required by Science
Service of all Special Awards organizations.

The affiliation fee
must be remitted to the Georgia Host Committee by January 15, 2008.

The award package
minimum is the minimum cash or cash-equivalent award that the
Special Awards organization must present to the student winner.
·
Your organization
may also choose to offer additional awards to the students’ teacher
and/or Science and Math Departments of their schools.

College Scholarships
In addition to the above requirements,
Four years of undergraduate study should be awarded.
Accompanying certificates, plaques, or recruiting materials are
encouraged.
