
CEISMC Director Richard Millman to Serve on the Board of Directors of the TAG Education Collaborative and Chair of its STEM Educational Advisory Committee
Richard Millman has been appointed as a member of the TAG Education Collaborative (TAGEC) Board of Directors. He will also serve as Chair of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Educational Advisory Committee of TAGEC for a three year term beginning in January 2010. Dr. Millman is the Director of the Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics and Computing (CEISMC) and Professor of the Practice of Mathematics at Georgia Tech.
The mission of TAGEC is to strengthen Georgia’s future workforce by uniting Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) resources with leading education initiatives while emphasizing science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Its goals are to strengthen Georgia’s STEM workforce, attract more students to STEM disciplines in post secondary education, and to strengthen middle and high school resources for delivering quality STEM education. For example, the TAGEC already supports the WebChallenge and Summer Internship programs.Dr. Paul Houston, Dean of Science at Georgia Tech, said “Linking the efforts of the Technology Association of Georgia, K-12 STEM education, and Georgia Tech will have a major effect on Georgia’s education and economy. This joint activity will measurably strengthen Georgia’s STEM education and workforce and we are pleased that Dr. Millman was chosen to be a part of that effort.”
TAG is the largest association of its kind in the Southeast, with over 8,700 members from tech and tech-enabled companies. It is presently supporting over half a dozen educational initiatives.
