The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia May 11-16, 2008.  The Intel ISEF is the largest science and engineering fair in the world and is dubbed the “Olympics of Science Fairs.”  The Intel ISEF hosts more than 1500 high school students from grades 9-12, representing almost every state in the U.S. and more than 45 countries.  The Intel ISEF encompasses 17 different science and engineering categories and awards more than $4,000,000 in prizes and scholarships.

For the Intel ISEF in Atlanta to be a success, we need to recruit more than 150 volunteer interpreters to assist on May 14, 2008, which is the day of judging of the projects.  These interpreters must be capable of translating scientific and technical information.  A list of the estimated (based on ISEF 2007) numbers of required volunteer interpreters for the project judging on May 14, 2008, by language is as follows: Spanish (59), Russian (18), Chinese-Mandarin (24), Portuguese (14), Japanese (5), Turkish (1), Thai (4), Chinese-Cantonese (2), Korean (5), Czech (3), French (2), Polish (2), Indonesian (1), Vietnamese (1), Hebrew (1), German (3), Slovak (1), Arabic (1).

In addition we need “Social Interpreters” to assist groups as they arrive at the Airport and during their registration and special events with the ability to translate normal, everyday conversations

Volunteer interpreters will be provided with meals, an official ISEF 2008 T-shirt, and a certificate of appreciation.  In addition interpreters will be provided parking.

To become a volunteer interpreter, please click on the volunteer button on this web site.  We also ask you to help us recruit additional volunteer interpreters by telling your peers and friends about this wonderful opportunity.

Please join us as an interpreter in the International Committee to help in the INTEL Sciences and Engineering Fair in the name of sciences education:
