(Applications will be accepted no later than April 30, 2010) Georgia Intern-Fellowships for Teachers (GIFT) Founded in 1991 as a program of the Georgia Institute of Technology's CEISMC, the GIFT program is a paid 4-7 week summer internship for science, mathematics and technology teachers. GIFT offers teachers real world applications of the subjects that they teach. Teachers are exposed to inquiry and problem solving, cutting-edge scientific research, and data analysis. By offering business and industry internships and public science institute and research fellowships, teachers increase content knowledge and gain practical examples of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics applications for enriched instruction and teaching practices based on evidence-based experiences.Since its founding, GIFT has placed teachers in more than 1500 positions statewide. GIFT Launches Inaugural Awards ProgramLong recognized for innovative teacher professional development, the Georgia Intern-Fellowships for Teachers (GIFT) program is launching an annual GIFT Action Plan Achievement Awards program to recognize outstanding GIFT teachers. The goal of the awards program is to annually recognize three outstanding teachers who effectively implemented GIFT Action Plans into their teaching practices. In addition to being recognized at the annual GIFT End of Summer Celebration Luncheon, each of the three top teachers will also receive a monetary award. Nominations for the inaugural awards will come from teachers who participated in GIFT during summer 2008 or 2009. Effective 2011, nominees will come from the prior year’s program participants, (i.e. 2011 nominees would have participated in GIFT during summer 2010). GIFT teachers are invited to nominate
